WONDERKING ONLINE CBT REPORT

So it's day 2 of the closed beta test, and since there is an emergency maintenance right now I'm going to take my time to describe what happened since yesterday at the launch.

Delays

July 16th started, there was plenty of excitement but at the same time, there was a certain concern regarding the time of the launch, in which they decided to change the launch time from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm EST, but what it did caught my attention was the amount of people that was connected at the game's forum minutes before it's release, around 1600 people gathered at the forum simultaneously, some of them were posting nonsense, and most of them clueless about the time of launch not being met, so there was an 20 min lag from the server and since I'm on CT it started at 2:19 pm(it was supposed to launch at 2:00 pm)

First things first and then It's a go

So the initial patch wasn't much of a pain in this game, neither the "game guard " application patch, and after it, everything was flying. Yes, everything was flying indeed, literally, what happened is that after I made my character, I unwisely selected the first channel 1(there were 2 sides A and B both of them had 5 channels), so after I entered, I counted 65 characters on the same place, and that was for channel 4 on side B as well ,after it...my game crashed, and had to re enter.

After I chose a different channel,I started out with the initial class as an SCOUT, then I knew that you could upgrade into a Gunner or Gunslinger and other 2 professions to choose from(after you reach a certain level), so I started at "Mookes House" with a bow and 1000 arrows in my hand(and pants on my legs), in which the game tells you how to move and do basic stuff such as jump,crouch,dash and attack.(easy right?) so you keep going trough a trail which it keeps pointing more of the game's capabilities, from "where's your item bag" to "how mining works" and it's clearly explained, so you end up in a village on the woods that is located parallel to a beach and you start talking to an old guy, that guy will lead you to some basic quest, like go to this girl on the town and talk to her, buy some potions from her, and you actually get to know everyone on town(don't worry they're just 6 characters there) then you keep on going, doing some grinding and some parties and you'll star leveling as smooth as it gets.

Getting technical

Without reaching to early conclusions,from what it started to be as a MapleStory Clone, it ended up as an original story and an original set of characters ,regarding on what MapleStory gave us, Wonderking Online must not be overlooked by MS or LaTale fans around the globe, the game offers un-tedious action, and makes back to back visits to main villages comfortable with town scrolls, on the other side, the starting quests were a little bit too annoying to complete, because there was plenty of people on a certain channel and mobs were randomly and temporarily limited and had a big respawn lag,it was starting to get boring, plus the people being able to steal a kill made it worse, but if you could find a good spot to grind with less people you should be fine.
Everything else went right(for a closed beta test that is),just a couple of misunderstandings with the game's request, and no, I'm not talking about bad translations, they were "ok", but what really annoyed me the most(besides the almost eventual crashes), was the Map display, it had a strange bug, every time I(accidently) popped up the map screen, everything went SLOOOOOW and buggy, I had to keep the W button pressed to take the ridiculously annoying map off and it took 10 seconds for the whole game to recover.

I'm very sensitive towards in-game music and this game had nice un-notorious soundtrack, each Town and place had it's own track and it was sort of easy listening kind of music.On the conceptual art, well that could be the part were people will say, "this is a Maple Story Clone" because the art it's pretty similar to it, yet it's also oriented to young audiences yet it's suitable for older audiences as well, and yes it was fun.

And in the end…

What I'm really looking forward to, it's a PvP event or at least an item giveaway (high rate items are difficult to come by) and it would be appreciated if they could offer more options for windowed mode of the game, I would prefer playing this game on a smaller screen while I could be doing some other stuff on the pc, and what I meant with this is, that the game it's pretty straight forward, with no "clueless" situations, just keep looking for more quests, but I highly recommend you to play this game with friends, it's really funny sometimes, when you get into an bonus door as an instance, were you have to look for bonus items and it gets faster and more fun to play. Well, waiting for this game wasn't a waste of time after all those bugs, delays and pre-launch forum wars, it offers everything it intended to, regardless of the beta state of the game, it's still a solid release and a game that people should not overlook.
