15-7-2009 Game News : Korean Game Developers Intensify Bot Prevention and Control

Recently, Korean game companies have been seriously suffering from illegal programs. Though in the past they have also suffered from illegal programs which aim to disturb the order of the game, these illegal programs are becoming more and more intelligent and diversified, so they now have to spend more manpower and money preventing and taking such issue under control.


Take Aion as the first example! Following the previous accelerating program, another illegal program that allows players to exert additional attacks on opponents has debuted in the Korean version of Aion recently. Therefore, complaints among players can be heard everywhere. This program increases the skill use time by reducing its cool down time, so as to deal more damage to the opponents.
With this program, players at lower levels and with poorer equipment are able to defeat those at higher levels with better equipment, leading to a common thing in the game that the defeated high-level players always ask the winning low-level players if they're botting and the latter won't admit at all. A heated spat between the two is thus ignited.

Korea-based NCsoft has confirmed that certain players are using this illegal program which can increase damage.
Another example is Slugger, a Korean baseball online game which is also filled with illegal programs. Through using these illegal programs, players can know in which direction the pitcher will deliver the ball and can pitch the ball more powerfully. Slugger players said, the game will eventually collapse if the official fails to solve the problems caused by illegal programs.
Korea-based Neowiz has confirmed that some players are trying to sell relevant illegal programs. With reports contributed by players, Neowiz has managed to find out the illegal programs and corresponding updates have also been made to prevent such issue from happening again.
